STYLE - Never goes out of fashion

The late "Yves Saint Laurent" once said

"Fashions fade, style is forever."

The inevitable truth is that trends fade through seasons. Though it's also true that fashion is cyclical, nothing stays forever in the fashion world.

Building a great foundation in basic styling using key pieces is significant, but when buying new clothes I focus on the eternal details that won't make me look like a fashion faux pas. A blazer with subtle stud details, as jazzed up LBD (Little Black Dress) with power shoulders, a draped silk white shirt and a perfect black bandage skirt can mould effortlessly into any season and the potential ensembles are endless. Timeless pieces are always a good investment.

Warm Pixie - Scandic Touch ?

Today I was reading that Warm Pixie can now be bought online. Warm Pixie Knitwear is one of those "hard to find" brands that in a way actually adds to the appeal. Previously only available in small boutiques and as a concession in three Topshop stores they now have their full range at their own webstore. Happy Days.

There is a Nordic angle too - would like to know what you think about this ? While looking through it struck me that Warm Pixie would / should do very well in the Nordic market. It's cool enough to do well in Sweden and casual enough to do well in Denmark. Take a look at these pieces and let me know what you think ?

Fashion : Difference between UK & Scandinavia Style

SORRY, some massive generalisations here . . .

1. H&M is hardly different at all - same stuff. It's all made in China, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan...
2. Scandinavian people (in general) are faster to adopt new fashion trends than people (in general) in Britain.
3. There are more blondes in Scandinavia. Obviously. 
4. Nordic fashion is rarely contrived or excessively stylised. Minimalistic still reigns.
5. When it comes to winter fashion, the poor residents of Nordic countries "enjoy" a long often very cold winter and as such have some great winter clothes - both in terms of quality e.g Peak Performance and also styles e.g. Malene Birger, Peter Jensen .
6. Plus Size Clothing is virtually non existent in Sweden & Norway but there is some demand in Denmark and Iceland.
7. Scandinavian people (in general) are more conformist to trends than people (in general) in The UK. Britain has far more diversity in fashion trends than Scandinavia.
8. Scandinavia Summer fashions are very down to earth - eco is a big theme for 2010.

Summer Knitwear

When I think about knitwear, I tend to think of winter clothes - thick knitted woolly jumpers from Iceland or Norway.

There are some great knitted items for summer though - knitwear can be cotton too!

Vero Moda Dresses & Tops

Just a quick experiment, I just made an Amazon store for Vero Moda dresses & tops - really quick and easy to make, you just configure a few things and then choose which clothes you want to add. As this was just a quick trial I called my store "Vero Moda Online Shop" and added a page full of dresses and then a page of tops. It's all done by Amazon so is 100% secure and trustworthy.

Wedding Dress For Swedish Princess Victoria

Six Swedish designers have, at the initiative of the Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet, been commissioned to design a wedding dress for Crown Princess Victoria who will be married in June 2010. Just an observation - Crown Princess Victoria is actually rather beautiful.

The dresses have been on show to the public this week, and soon they will be auctioned off.

Hats, Hats And More Hats!

If there is one item of clothing I really love it's the hat. And luckily for me, you, everyone!... more and more high street clothes retailers and offering great hats these days. I have been asked, but sorry it's not possible for me to choose a favourite hat - In fact I have three favourites :

• The sailor cap, which matches perfectly to the ubiquitous sailor theme this spring. 
• The little black (and actually quite old) 80's hat, for an androgynous look.
• Last but not least... my new rather large felt hat, which I will use this summer together with long dresses, shirts or large knits and lots of bangles / black & gold jewelery to create a 70's hippie look.

Among the featured designers are Moods of Norway, Nudie Jeans, 15x15, AOCO by Annika, Polarn o Pyret, Molo Kids, Marimekko, Spaksmannsspjarir,Happysthlm,and Emami, as well as up-and-coming designers showcased at the Copenhagen Fashion Summit.

Tricolour Fashion Trend

The combination of red, white and blue is constantly seen at the SS 10 shows (SS10 = Spring Summer 2010). The tricolour makes me think of warm and light-hearted things. Like French school girls on a summer break or sailors from old comic books.
Now the weather is colder, but there's no reasons to give up preppy colour combinations. The cold weather lasts way too long to dwell in black and grey tones!

The perfect way to introduce tricolour to your wardrobe is to invest in a great coats in red or blue. Pair the coat with crisp white tights and patent boots. Finish off the look with a classic beret!

Grandpa Chic Fashion

For the last couple of years granny-chic has been on everyone's lips. Floral dresses, vintage bags and laced ankle boots have been a strong part of the streetstyle. But this spring grandpas are going to step into the limelight.

There's something truly inspiring about stylish grey-haired gentlemen playing chess in the park. The way they pair their slouchy trousers with braces, cardigans and berets. And the fact that they never fail to look relaxed and sophisticated.

The easiest way to incorporate some grandpa chic into your own look is to pick a couple of elements and pair them with your favourite clothes. I picked a pair of slouchy trousers with braces and wore them with my favourite blouses and headpieces. Adding a pair of high heels and some lipstick takes the overall look from masculine to dainty. And probably makes both Grandma and Grandpa proud!
